William Buckler's 9 volumes on the larvae of the butterflies and moths represented a monumental feat of artistry over nearly 30 years. Published by the Ray Society in 1890, 1891 and 1893, Volumes 4, 5 and 6 cover the known British species of Noctuae at the time. Some of the nomenclature has since changed, but the species and life-cycle descriptions and the 52 plates of hand-coloured illustrations remain invaluable, although they are rarely seen.
Pisces Conservation are delighted to release these 3 volumes in electronic form, with the kind permission of the Ray Society.
Vols. 4 to 6 are available as a single download, for Windows PCs and Macs, with fully searchable text and hyperlinks for ease of navigation.
Format: PDF E-book by digital download. Download size 14.3 MB.
NOTE: This version contains all the plates, illustrations, etc from the original text. However, the CD-ROM version of the book also includes high-resolution images of the plates, not available in this digital version.
