Alfred Russel Wallace (1823 - 1913) is one of the fathers of modern science. After his early expeditions in Amazonia, Wallace's years of research in the Malay Archipelago, between 1854 and 1862, saw him develop the theory of evolution, contemporaneous with, yet quite independent of Darwin, which secured his place as one of the great Victorian scientists. Through this work he made an enormous contribution to our knowledge of the geography, biology and ethnology of South East Asia; in this and his earlier work in Amazonia, he provides the connection between the works of Bates, Spruce, and Darwin himself.

The classic account of South East Asia, by one of the great evolutionary biologists. Pisces Conservation are delighted to release "The Malay Archipelago" on CD, for Windows PCs and Macs, with fully searchable text and hyperlinks for ease of navigation.
